What excites you most about your Genius Hour Project?
The thing I find the most exciting about my Genius Hour Project is that I will be able to use my tenor sax soloing skills forever! I know I'm definitely not the best in jazz band and I have a lot of work ahead of me. Hopefully, with this Genius Hour Project I will be able to amaze my peers, audiences, and my family and make my band proud.
What concerns you most about your Genius Hour Project?
My biggest concern about my Tenor Saxophone Soloing project is that I won't be able to do it no matter how hard I try. Sometimes it seems like you either are born with the talent or not. Another concern I have is messing up in front of a crowd. Stage fright is not an issue. I have performed in front of crowds before in ballet but, I know that if I am not confident, embarrassment is sure to follow.
What Progress have you made so far with your project?
The progress I have made so far with my project is quite minimal. Yes, I practice every weekend, but I only looked up one chart for soloing and I didn't even memorize it. I have looked up In the Mood by Glen Miller and Take Five to try to understand the rhythms and style. This progress was all in the course of a couple weeks. In the future I plan to make progress every night! It doesn't matter if I have made little or lots of progress as long as I moving towards my goals.
